Dave, our Managing Director, has a wealth of experience in all HR disciplines across a variety of sectors in the UK. After starting in a role recruiting judges for the Lord Chancellor, Dave moved into payroll, and subsequently into the HR Manager role at a London-based Government Agency.
Whilst completing his professional CIPD studies, he then moved into a senior specialist recruiter role for the DWP, before a shift to the private sector, where he was HR Manager for Hogg Robinson. From there, he took on the Head of HR role in a Cumbria-based Prison, and then took the leap into interim management and consultancy, through his own company HorizonHR.
Major HR Transformation and Employee Relations Projects
Dave’s interim career saw him leading major change and transformation projects and employee relations work in some very challenging environments. These projects have included:
- Restructuring the corporate services teams within a 10,000 strong government department based in all corners of the UK
- Managing the merger implications of 3 Further Education Colleges coming together to form one modernised organisation
- Resolving complex employee relations issues in a science research establishment
- Restructuring a whole local authority, designing and delivering a new Target Operating Model to save public funds and bring more strategic capacity and capability
- Supporting numerous start-ups to professionalise their people management processes
- Managing large scale redundancy exercises in many sectors
- Working with a local authority to shape and deliver plans for reducing operating costs by £20M
- Restructuring a national Children’s Charity in the face of severe financial challenges
Experience Across Multiple Industry Sectors
His interim career has spanned sectors including local and central government, eCommerce, Manufacturing, Science research, Project Consultancies, further and higher education, as well as the voluntary sector and a number of private sector employers.
Dave began working with a handful of clients as a retained HR Consultant in 2008, and in 2014 he decided this would be his focus for the future. After rebranding the service under the MYHR Consultancy HR Retainer name, the business grew into a true professional services partner for a substantial number of clients ranging from micro-businesses to multi-million pound global organisations.

Dave specialises in Organisation Design & Change Management, but still loves to get involved in all-things HR, from training managers on how to tackle rising absence levels, to supporting employee relations casework and complex workplace challenges.
Dave is a trained mediator and also a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD.
