Career Summary

Andy commenced his career at BAE Systems as an Avionics Systems Engineer and after a number of years in Engineering moved into Project Management leading on Unmanned Aircraft projects. Following a period of time within Internal Audit and then Estimating Andy moved into the central Project Management function as Head of Project Management Learning and Development.

Included with this role was the Project Control Foundation Scheme which Andy transformed into a Project Management Higher / Degree apprenticeship. Working in partnership with Blackpool and the Fylde College this scheme won the prestigious Queen’s Award for Education. Following this success within Project Management Early Careers Andy was asked to lead on all the Early Careers programmes for the BAE Systems Air Sector.

Over the next five years Andy turned a disparate set of Graduate and Apprentice schemes into an integrated operation aligned to the strategic long term skills requirements of the business. Andy was a key player in BAE Systems winning the National Apprenticeship Service Macro Employer of the year and achieving one of the first Princess Royal training awards. The highlight was when BAE Systems became Number 1 in the UK “Ratemyapprenticeship” survey.

At the end of 2018 Andy was offered early retirement from BAE Systems and has spent the majority of 2019 carrying out Project Management training for Blackpool and the Fylde College training people for the APM Project Management Qualification.

Recently he has commenced Early Careers consultancy work with the National Nuclear Laboratory and is now focussing his time into more consultancy around Apprenticeship and Graduate schemes and offering this as a service through MYHR.
